Virtual Science & Technology Festival: Science Storytime

Virtual Science & Technology Festival: Science Storytime In-Person

For elementary school ages and families, via Facebook Live:

Join us for a virtual Science & Technology Festival Science Storytime! We'll read, do experiments that allow us to "see" the wind, and make our own wind vane. This storytime will appeal to a wide range of ages, and include links to more activities, including a citizen science project to which kids can easily contribute and learn more.

You can make a simple wind vane at home. While we're reading our Science Storytime book, we'll be pausing to do wind experiments. Here are the items you'll need if you want to follow along at home: plastic bag, hanger, pencil, balloons or zip-top baggies, tape, ball (any kind), book (one light enough for you to wave).

After we read, we'll make a wind vane, which shows the direction the wind is blowing! Here's what you need to make your wind vane: pencil, pin, straw, yogurt (or other small) tub with flat lid, paper plate, marker, sand or gravel (optional), construction paper, scissors, glue, and tape measure or ruler.

Email creativelearning@carsoncitylibrary.org to attend! This program is hosted in partnership with Empire Elementary School.

The 3-day Science & Technology Festival event also includes a salt crystal experiment on Monday (4/27) and stop motion animation on Tuesday (4/28)!
