Habits of Mind(craft) is a new workshop-based program that teaches Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) to students, grades six through ten. The program is structured on a monthly timeline consisting of two workshops a month, which will usually be on the first and second Friday of that month, and one Buildathon, an all-day event usually on the third Saturday of the month. The program will run for eight months starting on October 10th, 2015. Workshops will cover STEAM subjects and how they apply to the real world, and the Buildathon events will be focused on STEAM challenges and on building a virtual community using skills learned during the workshops. At least one workshop a month will feature a guest speaker who will discuss various STEAM topics, such as electrical engineering, architecture, and agriculture. The idea of the program is to use MinecraftEdu to build a practical knowledge base and to build community connections while performing tasks in virtual reality.
